I’ve always loved cooking. My passion began at a very young age — by 12, I was helping my grandmother in the kitchen, learning the art of traditional Gujarati cooking. Those early memories, the smells, the textures, and the joy of creating something from scratch, are treasures I carry with me to this day.
By the time I reached university at 21, my fascination with food had deepened. While studying social sciences, I found myself constantly drawn to food culture — exploring how meals shape identity, tradition, and community. I challenged myself to think critically about the role of food in society, devouring cookbooks, magazines, and research alike, blending my intellectual curiosity with my culinary instincts.
That curiosity soon turned into action. I became the first female radio presenter in my community, hosting a show dedicated to sharing recipes, tips, and stories from my kitchen. That platform allowed me to connect with listeners and share my passion for cooking. Later, I expanded my reach by writing a recipe column for the local magazine An-Nisa, combining my love of storytelling with practical, flavour-packed dishes.
But my cooking journey isn’t just about sharing recipes — it’s deeply personal. Sixteen years ago, my life took a dramatic turn, and so did my relationship with food. At 16, I rebelled against expectations that would have changed my path forever, and that spirit of rebellion has stayed with me ever since.
Now, at 33, I continue to challenge the norms — not just in life, but in the kitchen. I experiment fearlessly with flavours, cultures, and ingredients, taking the traditional and turning it into something uniquely my own. That’s the essence of Rebel Spoon: a space where rules don’t exist, where creativity thrives, and where every dish tells a story.
This blog is for anyone who loves bold, experimental, flavour-filled cooking, and for those who know that a little rebellion — in life and in food — can lead to something extraordinary. Your support means the world to me, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts after trying one of my recipes.
Welcome to the table.
